Hearing and learning about “Corporate Social Responsibility” seem foreign to me. The business world, as I perceive it, is always about making profit. It always revolves around the right operational formula, getting the customers hyped, competition and money. My impression of business seem so consequential and secluded that I rarely think of what a company would give back beyond the usual. I have heard of philanthropists and all these organisations or foundations but I never related or connected them to existing companies. I have always thought these assemblies work individually - for the sole purpose of instilling social responsibility. Helping a community seem vague and voluntary by individuals or by non-profit organizations, not by multimillion companies. I was never exposed to the idea that huge companies set aside a whole team or even a sub-company to manage their voluntary contributions to those who need help or simply for the betterment of the world we live in.

Sitting in class on the very first day of CSRGOVE, I was remote to the course description. I was basically clueless as to what are being discussed in the said course. Two (2) meetings later, I found myself engrossed to the lesson, especially after reporting for the first “Good News, Monday!” wherein I, together with my group mates, had to search for a company with a CSR program. It was only then when I realised companies, by and large, have a number of programs as a constant especially the top grossing ones for Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability. It seems that, to me, business has become much more interesting because it encompasses such a large sum of benefits given back to the communities outside the organization and that makes me happy and satisfied that there are morals and ethics incorporated in such profit-centered structures. I am in awe of what these organisations do to give back to the world and I look forward to hearing from this side of business more.
